Conway Primary School

Inclusion , Vulnerability and Wellbeing (IVW) at Conway

At Conway, we see inclusion as more than support — it is about truly understanding each child and ensuring they feel confident, capable and ready to learn. We recognise that children’s needs are often complex and interconnected, so we take a joined-up approach that brings together learning, wellbeing and safeguarding. This means we do not view behaviour, progress or emotional needs in isolation, but as part of a wider picture that we respond to carefully and thoughtfully.

Our Inclusion, Vulnerability and Wellbeing (IVW) framework underpins this approach. It enables us to identify the specific barriers a child may be facing and respond in a way that is both proportionate and flexible. Through a clear tiered structure, we ensure that every child receives the right level of support — whether through strong classroom teaching, targeted provision or more personalised support — often combining these approaches and adapting them over time as needs change. This ensures that support is responsive and that every child continues to move forward.

What makes Conway distinctive is our commitment to personalised, ambitious provision. We carefully match support to each child’s needs so they can access learning successfully, while maintaining high expectations for what they can achieve. Our classrooms are structured to support all learners, with clear routines, accessible resources and a strong focus on emotional regulation and relationships. We work closely with families, recognising that partnership is key. By combining high-quality teaching with a deep understanding of each child, we create an environment where all pupils feel valued, supported and able to succeed.

Special Educational Needs may be identified prior to a child joining the school or at any point during their time with us, following observations by parents or members of staff. Where needs are identified, these are discussed sensitively and confidentially with parents at the earliest opportunity, ensuring a clear and supportive partnership from the outset.

Pupils identified as requiring additional support benefit from carefully planned, personalised provision through an Individual Provision Map and Individual Education Plan (IEP). These plans set clear targets, are regularly reviewed, and are designed to enable each child to make strong progress and achieve their full potential.

We work closely with parents and carers as key partners in their child’s development. Where appropriate, and with parental consent, we engage specialist external agencies to enhance support further. Our inclusive approach ensures that every child receives the right support at the right time, within a nurturing and aspirational learning environment.
