Conway Primary School

PE

PE Vision Statement

At Conway Primary School we are passionate about raising sporting achievement and improving the health and well-being of our all our pupils. Our aim is to deliver a high-quality PE curriculum, as well as offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

We believe that a rich and varied PE curriculum can improve attainment, attendance and behavior. In addition, we want to inspire a love of sport in order to raise the level of physical activity of our pupils outside of school. Through our PE provision we aim to develop the skills and attitudes needed for every child to have a lifelong participation in physical activity and healthy living.

Sports Ambassadors

Conway Primary School’s Sports Ambassadors are a group of 24 children across KS2 who play a very important role in PE at the school. Appointed in September for the whole academic year, Sports Ambassadors are responsible for:

  • promoting sporting events at Conway;
  • encouraging other children to take part in physical activity;
  • helping staff with School Games events (for example, setting up equipment, score-keeping and officiating);
  • contributing ideas for whole-school sport events;
  • helping staff to create and update the PE noticeboard and displays.

Sports Ambassadors have to apply for their positions and must be able to demonstrate a commitment to PE and sport, as well as the School Games values of honesty, teamwork, self-belief, respect, passion and determination.

Sainsbury’s School Games

The Sainsbury's School Games is a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive school sport. The Games are made up of three levels of activity: competition in schools, between schools, and at a county/area level:

In order to promote competitive sport as part of the new National Curriculum, Conway will be holding a range of intra-school (Level 1) School Games events throughout the year. Details and results will be displayed below as well as in school on our School Games section of the PE noticeboard.

Change 4 Life (“Move it!”)

Change 4 Life (“Move It!”) was introduced at Conway in Summer 2014 and is a weekly after-school club with a group of Year 5 children.

Change4Life Sports Clubs are a new type of extracurricular sports club, designed to increase physical activity levels in children by using multi-sport themes as well as the inspiration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The clubs are designed to help establish a habit of regular participation, develop a real sense of belonging and change behaviours relating to key health outcomes (including healthy eating, physical activity and emotional health).

The children who attend the Move It! club are proud to be part of the club and enjoy sharing the games and activities they learn with other children at playtimes.

“I like Move It because it has encouraged me to think that I can be good at sports instead of seeing other people do it on TV.”
“I feel good about doing Move It club. I didn’t used to go to any clubs before Move It but now I do other clubs as well.”
“I like doing Move It because I used to feel shy about doing PE but now I feel confident to join in competitions. It has taught me new games that I can practice with my little brother at home.”
